Well ain’t this one of the most frequently asked questions in the marriage celebrant world! This along with ‘Why do you charge so much?’, or ‘How can you charge so much when you just rock up for an hour on the day?’. While this question could easily cause some beef between myself and potential clients, I actually love getting asked because it means I can help educate.
The cost or price of a marriage celebrant in Adelaide varies pretty greatly, because we all have different offerings and different unique selling points. To answer the question right off the bat though, some celebrants charge a few hundred dollars, while others charge upwards of $1500. The average cost of a celebrant in Adelaide is $643 (thanks @EasyWeddings for the stats!). What you choose to pay is totally up to you! It all depends on how much you value a memorable ceremony.
If you’re not too phased about your ceremony and you simply just want to get married quick smart, then there’s absolutely nothing wrong with booking that $400 celebrant. You will end up with a cookie cutter ceremony but again, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. I have no doubt it will be pleasant ceremony and bottom line, you’ll be legally married!
But think about this, spend a little extra and you’ll get a little extra. Something you and your guests will remember forever!

Lastly, be mindful that many celebrants have different packages. I offer a ‘Legals Only’ package for $353 where we sit at your dining table and sign on the dotted line. I also offer a ‘Short & Sweet’ ceremony where you get all the benefits of an actual ceremony, just without the personal bits and pieces. This one is priced from $490 depending on the day and time of year. You could consider my ‘Wingman’ ceremony from $530 where you can get absolutely anyone in your life to deliver the ceremony and I just jump in for the legal parts. And of course you could book me for my favourite, the ‘Memorable Moments’ ceremony which is full of emotion; from laughter to tears, we cover it all as I recite your love story. This one is priced from $825 because the time I invest in it is much higher than any of my others.
To sum up, pay whatever you want based on what you want out of your celebrant and your ceremony. But rest assured, it’s worth paying a little bit more for the most important part of your special day.
